About Antwanette
Antwanette Serrano is a third-grade teacher at Elizabeth Green School and Newington Public Schools’ 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year. With 27 years of expertise, Antwanette creates a sanctuary of equity where every child feels seen and valued. By blending high expectations and personalized instruction, she ensures each student’s unique background serves as a bridge to success. As a district leader and mentor, she champions equitable access to high-quality education. Her impact has been recognized statewide by the CEA "Teachers Who Go the Extra Mile" campaign.
Her commitment to the "whole child" shines through her advocacy for Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Inspired by her students’ real-world challenges, she authored the children's books Mindful Mason, Empathetic Emma, and Accepting Ace, providing kids with a "toolbox" for navigating life with kindness and resilience.
A proud Central Connecticut State University alumna, Antwanette’s career honors the "magic of books" sparked by childhood library visits. Today, she passes that spark to her students, teaching them that literacy is not just a skill, but a transformative power. Through her inspiring passion, Serrano continues to ignite a love of learning and compassion in all those she meets.
