The Mohegan Tribe's Police Department's role is to enforce the law in a fair and impartial manner while protecting the constitutional rights of all persons.

About

The Mohegan Tribal Police Department has 32 full-time and 4 per-diem sworn police officers including one Chief of Police, one Deputy Chief of Police, one Lieutenant, one Master Sergeant, six Sergeants, and two Detectives. The reservation is 500 acres with a daily population that varies from 25,000 to 30,000 people. The resident population of the reservation is approximately 150 people.

The mission of the department is to protect life, safeguard property, and maintain order within carefully prescribed ethical and constitutional restrictions within the confines of the Mohegan Indian Reservation. Police services, policies, and procedures will be implemented so that the Department operates within recognized Community Policing Standards to maximize the efforts of department members in achieving the goals of the organization.

The overall goal of the Mohegan Tribe Police Department is to free the confines of the Reservation of the Mohegan Indian Tribe from crime and disorder. In doing so, it is the department’s role to enforce the law in a fair and impartial manner, while protecting the constitutional rights of all persons. It is not the role of the department to legislate, to render legal judgment, or to punish.
