About Ryan

Ryan Heath is a dedicated bilingual educator and instructional leader based in Wallingford, committed to supporting multilingual learners and their families. His work focuses on newly arrived students, particularly those from Spanish-speaking backgrounds, as they navigate the complexities of a new language and culture. Heath’s teaching emphasizes inclusive, student-centered practices that prioritize both language proficiency and a strong sense of belonging.

Drawing on global teaching experience in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, Heath brings a deeply culturally responsive approach to his classroom. He has also built vital community partnerships with organizations such as the Spanish Community of Wallingford and Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services to support families beyond the school walls.

Central to Heath’s practice is the active promotion of bilingualism by leveraging the rich schemata students bring to the classroom. He views a student's existing cultural and linguistic background not as a hurdle, but as a vital academic scaffold; by intentionally connecting new concepts to their prior knowledge, he creates an environment where their expertise provides an academic benefit to all learners. Through this lens, Heath utilizes student-driven news programs and purposeful technology to amplify diverse voices, fostering critical thinking and digital citizenship. As a multilingual learner himself, he ensures that students grow socially and emotionally while seeing their primary language as a powerful tool for academic success.
