Mohegan Tribal Police Department Receives Full Accreditation Award

On Thu., Sep. 11, 2025, the Mohegan Tribal Police Department's Lt. Todd Shaw and Chief of Police Michael G. Surprenant gratefully accepted the department's full Accreditation award from the Chairman of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC), Chief Keith Mello.

The POSTC provides high-quality basic, advanced, and specialized training to Connecticut police officers, as well as creating and applying a comprehensive accreditation standards program for local law enforcement units. In receiving the State Tier III Accreditation award, the Mohegan Tribal Police Department has proven its commitment to general management and standards in policy and practice.

To receive the State Tier III Accreditation award, the department completed a thorough self-evaluation, followed by an independent audit of state assessors and appointed members of the council assigned to the Police Officer Standard and Training Accreditation Subcommittee. The department has also accepted the obligation to continue the quest for professional excellence by working toward the fulfillment of any future standards set forth by POSTC that may be applicable.
