About Kris
Kirsten (Kris) DiMaio has been privileged to teach in the Naugatuck School District since 2001, fostering a classroom environment where curiosity, connection, and joy in learning are at the forefront. As a second-grade teacher at Salem Elementary for over twenty years and now at Hop Brook Elementary, she brings learning to life through her signature “Adventure Awaits” theme, where students (often donning safari hats) embark on meaningful academic journeys that extend far beyond the classroom walls.
Her students engage in authentic, real-world experiences, from connecting with Fulbright Scholars around the world and conversing with astronauts to exploring endangered animal conservation and participating in a yearly classroom cow adoption. These opportunities cultivate global awareness, empathy, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
DiMaio is a steadfast advocate for collaboration, working in partnership with colleagues, families, and the broader school community to ensure every child is supported and valued. She is equally committed to mentoring beginning educators, contributing to a culture of shared growth and collective success.
In receiving this recognition, DiMaio reflects a deep belief that excellence in education is the work of many, not just one. She is honored to represent and celebrate the extraordinary team alongside her.
