About Julie
Julie Hodgson, now in her 35th year as an educator, teaches eighth-grade social studies at Mansfield Middle School in Storrs, CT. Hodgson embodies a deep commitment to students and a drive for self-growth. Over the years, she has blended inspiration from colleagues with a tireless investigation into effective teaching practices, always evolving her craft. She recognizes that “it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants and collaborating with colleagues that [she] has made an impact on students and families.”
Hodgson started her career teaching at Windham High School, E.O. Smith High School, and Hampton Elementary School, and has since spent three decades at Mansfield Middle School, primarily teaching eighth grade. She is a 2005 Milken Educator Award recipient, a 2007 University of Connecticut Neag Outstanding School Educator, and a former Teacher-in-Residence at the Connecticut Department of Education. Most recently, Hodgson received a Fund for Teachers grant in 2023, which allowed her to attend a creativity workshop in Florence, Italy, and in 2025, she completed her work as a three-year cohort member in the University of Connecticut Dodd Center’s Human Rights Close to Home Program.
