About Michael
Michael’s life has been guided by a single underlying principle: to lead students to the realization that THEY ARE the answer to the world’s challenges… then inspiring them to act upon that realization.
With the support of his wife and two children, Mike has been a dedicated Environmental Science teacher since 2004. He first taught at Staples HS in Westport, where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2010 and has taught at Weston HS since 2018 where he was named Teacher of the Year and state semi-finalist in 2022.
Michael believes in experiential learning, both inside and outside of the classroom. Locally, he’s collaborated with countless community organizations to inspire his students to participate firsthand in community action, and from 2009-2017, he was a co-founder and director of the Wakeman Town Farm educational farm and sustainability center in Westport.
Globally, for the past 15 years, he’s taken students to Latin America to ‘build a better world’ through trips with the Builders Beyond Borders service organization. Gandhi said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Michael has tried to live by these words and tries each day to lead his students to do the same.
