Sharon Huynh is a fifth-grade teacher in Weston, CT. Born in Taiwan, Sharon moved to the United States when she was five. After mastering English, she eventually graduated 7th in her class of 1996 from Wethersfield High School.
Earning a leadership scholarship, Sharon followed her childhood dream of becoming a teacher by attending UConn and was accepted into the Neag School of Education her junior year as part of the integrated bachelor/masters education program. Her Masters inquiry project explored the influence of an instructional unit on students’ understanding, awareness, and attitudes toward Asian Americans.
Sharon started her teaching career in 2001 as a fourth-grade teacher in Weston. After twelve years, Sharon moved up to teach fifth grade. Her favorite part of teaching is the connections she makes with her students, some of which have become long-lasting friendships as they have entered adulthood. She can often be found cheering for students at games, concerts, and shows or enjoying a meal with former students, catching up on their lives.
Sharon lives in Fairfield with her family. Her husband is a pharmacist with Yale-New Haven Hospital and her two kids are in middle school and high school.
