Congratulations, Nancy Nelson!

Elementary School Teacher at Noah Wallace School in Farmington, CT

About Nancy

Nancy earned a B.A from Smith College and master's at CCSU. She has been teaching at Noah Wallace for 37 years which is a special place with a strong sense of community and dedication to its students and families. She taught second grade, first grade, and kindergarten and worked with all students through clubs and special programs, believing in the importance of involvement in school life as essential for a sense of belonging. As Family School Liaison, Ms. Nelson feels privileged to work with Hartford families from the CREC Open Choice program.

Nancy's love of nature and interest in the outdoors, connected to community service led her to pursue a second masters from Antioch University in Place-Based Teaching and Learning with a focus on nature-based curriculum. Nancy is excited to bring this work to all the kindergarten students as they are learning to be stewards of the land and global citizens who care for Earth because they love it, too. She partners with the Farmington Land Trust to be stewards of a local parcel where students spend time engaged in nature study and have been spending as much time learning outdoors as possible. Nancy is helping all kindergarten classes in the district to use the environment as a teacher and incorporate as much outdoor learning as possible.
