About Lisa
Lisa Abel is in her twentieth year of teaching and is currently the band director at Simsbury High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Miami and her Master’s degree in music education with a wind conducting emphasis from the University of Hartford. She also holds a 6th year degree in educational leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
Lisa has served as a TEAM mentor and cooperating teacher and presents regularly at conferences. She is an adjunct professor at The Hartt School and a UCONN Early College Experience teacher. Lisa has been heavily involved in the Connecticut Music Educators Association and is an active member of the American School Band Directors Association. Lisa enjoys collaborating with colleagues, families, and community members to present creative performances and develop meaningful experiences for all students.
She is honored to be the 2023 Kathleen Magowan Simsbury Teacher of the Year and a 2023 finalist for Connecticut Teacher of the Year. Lisa lives in Farmington with her husband Chris and daughters Marin and Norah.
