About Lauren
Lauren Masterson has been an educator since 2014. She earned her BA in English and her Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Central Connecticut State University in 2012. She considers herself a proud Blue Devil, as she is the third generation of women in her family to attend CCSU.
Masterson's career began at Berlin High School, where she taught English for eight years. Since the fall of 2022, she has held the post of Gifted and Talented Teacher at Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School, her alma mater. Lauren revitalized the Gifted and Talented program, rebranding it “Enrichment” to make the program more inclusive. Masterson’s classroom provides students with authentic opportunities, including the Civics First Middle School Mock Trial, Stock Market Game, Invention Convention, Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl, and National History Day.
Her mission is to bridge the gap between the school and the community, and she loves inviting community members to peruse students’ projects and pose questions to young presenters. Masterson also launched a “Buddies in Business” initiative this year, in which members of the local business community visit the classroom to discuss business practices and entrepreneurship. As an educator, she loves nothing more than learning about her students, learning with her students, and learning from her students.
