About Joe
Joe Goldman teaches at his alma mater, E.O. Smith High School. After working at the Connecticut State Capitol, Goldman earned a Master’s in Social Studies Education from UConn in 2010 and began teaching at Region 4, Valley Regional HS.
Goldman joined the Social Studies Department at E.O. in 2014 and is invested in connecting with the community to create educational opportunities for students, including school-wide symposiums and cultural events. In 2021, he worked with his wife, Sarah, to write the “My Election, My Vote” curriculum for the Secretary of the State of CT, and, in 2022, his Genocide class was featured in CPTV's Cutline special “Antisemitism Rising: Bearing Witness Then and Now.” He has hosted many guest speakers in his classes, including former Secretary of State Denise Merrill, Rwandan Genocide survivor Carl Wilkens, Holocaust survivor Ruth Weiner, and others who could help reinforce key elements of his lessons. Joe has also served as a member of the Yale Fortunoff Advisory Committee.
In 2023, Goldman received the HERO Program - Voices of Hope's Simon Konover Recognition for Excellence in Holocaust Teaching and, last year, was honored with the Connecticut Education Association's Mahatma Gandhi - Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award for his efforts to advance equality and human rights. Goldman strives to teach with empathy and empower his students to have a voice in their community, and he shares his love of learning with his family.
