About Yasmin

Yasmin Ithier is a second-grade teacher at West Middle Community School and Hartford Public Schools' 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year. Yasmin grew up inspired by her mother’s dedication and work ethic as an educator in Hartford Public Schools. She has been teaching in Hartford for nine years and began as a Behavior Technician. Yasmin went on to become a literacy and math lab teacher for the district and a member of the Eureka Math Squared Fellowship Program. She was also a member of the HFT/AFT Teacher Leadership Program, where they discussed, collaborated, and researched topics related to educational policy-making. Along with teaching, Yasmin has been coaching girls’ volleyball and basketball at Newington High School for 12 years.  

Yasmin passionately believes in bringing learning to life within her classroom. She approaches each day with an enthusiastic attitude toward teaching and a growth mindset toward becoming a better educator! She strives to instill a love for learning and motivates students to become the best version of themselves. When students think they can’t, she reassures them that they can and are capable of so much! “Si Se Puede” is her classroom mantra that encourages students to push through and persevere through any challenge that is presented to them, no matter how big or small!
