About Jeffrey

Jeff Helming has taught second grade at Anna Reynolds Elementary School in Newington for 24 years. Continually working to uplift education by building partnerships and empowering students, he began the Reynolds Writers Contest to encourage student authors and has published two books, Reynolds Writings and Reynolds Voices. Helming has also had many students recognized by UCONN’s Connecticut Student Writers Contest.  

With a teaching philosophy centered on fostering kindness and empathy, Helming began and currently leads his school’s ongoing participation in CCMC’s "PJ Day For the Kids" along with "100 Cents for 100 Days," which donates to Newington’s Food Pantry. He serves as Teacher Leader and is on several committees including the Leadership Team, District Data Team for Equity, and District Wellness Committee in addition to attending professional conferences such as the 2023 Courageous Conversation Convention. Helming has also advocated for students at Board of Education meetings, submitted testimony, and attended CEA rallies. He was recently featured in CEA’s "How Teachers Go the Extra Mile" campaign.  

Helming earned his BSEd in English and Elementary Education at CCSU and his MA in Elementary Reading and Language from the University of New England. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.
