Ryan O’Connell teaches fifth grade at Northeast Academy Arts Magnet School in Mystic, Connecticut. Growing up, he was a dreamer with an imagination that he was fortunate to have nurtured by outstanding teachers who recognized his distinct talents and interests. His creative spirit and desire to make a difference led him to teaching, where he endeavors to provide his students with opportunities to express and extend themselves and their understanding.
The artful application of hands-on learning is a central theme in Ryan’s classroom. His students’ work has been featured at several statewide education events, including the Connecticut Educators Computer Association (CECA) Technology Exposition and the Teaching and Learning with iPads Conference at the University of Connecticut. He is a Fund for Teachers Fellow and the recipient of the 2020 CECA Educator Award and 2022 CASL Follett Creativity Award.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education, Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. He credits the exceptional teachers he had in the Ledyard Public Schools system with inspiring him toward a career in education. From dreamer to teacher, Ryan is grateful to work in a profession that he loves.
