Learn More About Kim

2022 Connecticut State Teacher of the Year, Kim King (she/her), is an art teacher in Mansfield, Connecticut. Over her thirteen-year career, she has taught students in grades pre-k to 12. Regardless of grade level, she carries with her themes of equity, empowerment, and creativity. As a transracial intercountry adoptee and parent to an adopted daughter and a biracial transgender son, King has a profound understanding of intersectionality. She believes what our students see and what they are exposed to matters. Students need to see accurate representations of themselves to imagine a future where they are active contributors. King is working with Make Us Visible Connecticut to contribute her expertise to the Asian American Pacific Islander curriculum. Recently, King joined forces with fellow AAPI 2022 State Teachers of the Year to form a collective to support current AAPI teachers, recruit new AAPI teachers, and build resources. King received her Master of Art Education from New York University and Bachelor of Fine Art from Syracuse University.
