In September 2004, the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) entered into development and management agreements with the Cowlitz Tribe to plan, design, and develop a casino-resort on its 152-acre reservation near La Center, Washington. The partnership between the two tribes is expected to create one of the most significant investments in Southwest Washington for years to come.
In summer 2016, the Cowlitz Tribe announced the name of the project—ilani—meaning “to sing” in their native language. Subsequently, after 160 years, the federal government confirmed the Cowlitz Indian Tribe’s right to their reservation, allowing them to move forward with construction.
Ilani is scheduled to open in late spring 2017. At 368,000 square-feet, ilani is planned to include 100,000 square-feet of gaming space with 2,500 slots and 80 gaming tables, 15 restaurants, bars and retail outlets and a 2,500-seat meeting and entertainment venue hosting nationally recognized performances.
