5.21.10 — Mohegan Tribal Government to offer Extended Health Care Benefits (Mohegan Tribal Nation, May 19, 2010) -- New federal guidelines for health care reform will allow young adults up to age 26 to be covered under their parents’ health insurance. Although these guidelines will not be mandated by the federal government until 2011, the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun have chosen to take action today to prevent any possible gap in insurance coverage for dependents of employees who might be affected by this change.

Lynn Malerba, Chairwoman of the Mohegan Tribe, owners and operators of Mohegan Sun, added that “We are committed to keeping our employees and their families in the best of health. We believe that allowing dependents the time to transition into their own plans and onto a healthy young adulthood is in the best interest of our entire community.”

“From day one, we have always held to the belief that our employees are the core of our success,” said Mitchell Etess, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun. He continued to say “we are getting out in front of this issue to ensure that our employees are receiving optimum coverage to give them the peace of mind they deserve.”

Our self-insured plan will comply with the Coverage Continuation Option which goes into effect on June 1, 2010. This will ensure that all current dependents of our employees will be eligible for uninterrupted coverage until they reach age 26 or obtain insurance through their own employment.
